The Power of Email Marketing

Over the past few weeks, I’ve witnessed the incredible power of email marketing.  Our family will be traveling to Ecuador in July, on a program called “Causes For Change International.” (See:  www.causesforchange.org).

My husband will be providing free dental care to needy children for a week, my son, his friend, a pre-med student and I will be helping out.  Joel is supposed to work on between 160-200 kids per day!

The surprising news came a few weeks ago.  I was told that I needed to bring about 1000 small stuffed animals as gifts for the children who have nothing.  Since these kids receive no medical or dental care all year, and typically are anxious about having any procedure done, it gets them motivated to sit in a chair when they realize that a gift will be given to them afterwards.

With a wave of concern washing over me, I thought I’d better do SOMETHING.  I sent out an email blast to numerous friends, family and colleagues.  And thankfully, the donations have started coming.  Two young girls, Laura and her friend Nina brought over 6 large bags full of 310 beanie babies!

A writing colleague, Susan Bearman, created a flyer for her son’s school and collected numerous donations from parents at the school picnic last weekend.

I’m grateful, appreciative and very moved by everyone’s support.  It just goes to show how much we are all connected.  Thank you, Thank you…!  Only about 600 more small stuffed animals to go….

Inspirational Paths Towards Inner Peace

We’re all in this world together, and yet sometimes, that idea gets blurred and foggy.   We see each other as separate until certain people or events happen, which jar our senses and make us realize the inner connection between all of us.

Today, at the National Speakers Association workshop and luncheon, I was privileged to hear two outstanding speakers, Frank Bucaro and Howard Putnam, offer wisdom about speaking, about ethics, and ultimately about life.

Will write more about that…  but since this hour is extremely late, I’ll need to be brief.

What are YOUR thoughts on living life to its fullest?

How conscious are you of ethics during your work?

Do you hang around those who inspire you — or those who bring you down?

Lots of powerful food for the mind here.   We need to show more people how powerful videos can help spread their message to the public… and increase funding and support.

Happy Spring!

Well, time has been flying by, and thank goodness — it’s SPRING!  Hooray!

“Amelia,” the musical about Amelia Earhart went well, and we had a great crowd… lots of positive feedback too.   Soon, we’ll start the process of revising.  Never realized how much revising goes into creative projects like this…

As an interesting note, due to our publicity in the Pioneer Press, we received a note from an organization named, Zonta, the oldest women’s business association.  Earhart was actually one of their most notable members.  Zonta wants us to perform excerpts from “Amelia” at their benefit on May 21st.  So — Chloe Bolan, Dave Flippo and I — along with Tobi (who played Amelia at Theatre Building Chicago) will be performing for Zonta’s event.

Besides that — I’m finishing a new children’s non-fiction book about Social Justice…. the idea is about how kids can make a difference in the world.  Through my research, I’ve discovered several inspiring organizations, created by youth, who will be noted in this book.   I’m looking forward to seeing this book come to life!

Please feel free to drop me a note!  Did you see “Amelia?”  What do you think about a book on Social Justice for kids?

Busy & Fun Times Ahead…

Hi Friends,

This is still a very new experience… sharing my thoughts on a blog.  Hope whoever reads this is enjoying these words.

Well, the time is getting closer towards the staging of our Earhart musical, “Amelia.”  I was inspired by Earhart since my childhood days, when I attended Earhart Elementary School on Chicago’s south side.  This musical will showcase Amelia’s passion to live life to the fullest, as she led the way for women to be independent and daring.

Besides my excitement over this upcoming event, I’ve been asked to write a children’s book about Social Justice.   The focus is to motivate children to realize that even if they’re not old enough to vote, they CAN make a difference.   I’m delighted to work on this project that touches my heart.

In doing research on youth organizations involving social justice, I discovered so many interesting sites.  One site, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, began with an idea by a four-year-old girl, Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who had pediatric cancer.  She wanted to raise money for her doctors to find a cure to her disease, so she and her older brother held a yearly summer Lemonade Stand, and donated the proceeds for pediatric cancer research.

Even though Alex died at age 8, her cause lives on… raising millions of dollars every year.  (www.alexslemonade.org

It makes me realize how we ALL can make a difference.  No matter what!  The process of feeling empowered starts simply with a positive belief.   What do you think?

Exciting Month…

What an exciting time!  I just finished creating my first teleseminar on January 30th, 2008.  Quite an adventure.  I interviewed nationally recognized storyteller, Susan O’Halloran on “The Power of Story-Telling For Non-Profits.”  She was a terrific guest, and we offered a downloadable free gift of her material.

One of Susan’s tips was that to reach the media, it’s important to have a compelling story.  Your story can tie in with a current event, holiday, or pull on one’s heartstrings.  Stories get remembered.  Facts don’t.  Check out Susan’s website at www.susanohalloran.com.

Our listeners were also treated to insights from Gordon Mayer, Vice-President at Community Media Workshop in Chicago.  (www.newstips.org).  He was wonderful too.

If you want to be kept in the loop for more noteworthy teleseminars, just add your name and email in at www.asklynnsanders.com.  (Under question, you can write in “nothing.”)

My main preoccupation at the moment is my first musical, “Amelia” — the behind-the-scenes story of Amelia Earhart.  My team of collaborators – Chloe Bolan, book writer, Dave Flippo, composer and myself as lyricist have been working day and night on revising and tweaking our manuscript and score.  The staged reading for the musical is on Tuesday, March 18th, at 7:00 p.m., Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont Avenue in Chicago.  Tickets are a whopping $5.00 before March 14th and $10.00 at the door.  You can phone 773-327-5252 for tickets.  (I’m attaching the poster for your viewing pleasure.)

Lots of creative juggling going on here… working on a children’s story about Social Justice…. doing publicity and marketing for several clients… and my work on a major documentary is coming out soon — “Frame 313, The JFK Assassination Theories. ”  You’ll find exclusive footage on this film that’s fascinating…  (www.sundownentertainmentcompany.com)

That’s all for now.   Have a good weekend. :)
